Over new years (before the world went to absolute shit) my boyfriend and I went with his family to San Miguel de Allende, a small, historic town in central Mexico. San Miguel is known for being the birthplace of Mexican independence, and as much as I enjoyed the learning aspect of the trip, the eating we did was absolutely phenomenal.

Dôce-18 concept house is something out of a dream (for me, at least). With a boutique hotel on the second floor and restaurants and shopping on the first floor, what more could you ask for. On this particular occasion, Carlos and I dug into a pepperoni and ham pizza which was promptly washed down by my gin and tonic and Carlos' mystery drink (neither of us can remember what he had, but that means it had to have been good, right?).

In a neighboring city, Guanajuato, we scarfed down this incredible prosciutto plate topped with parmesan, mushroom, capers, artichoke, tomato, and fresh ground pepper.

The view from our balcony seats at La Trattoria made the food that much more delicious.

That same night we indulged in tuna tostadas that were made for the gods.

While in Guanajuato, Carlos convinced me to try Chapulines on guacamole, or grasshoppers, at Bartola. Now, before you yell "gross," or "you're joking," or "I could never," like I did for months before I gave them a shot, hear me out. The little guys are not so bad! Crispy, yes. Salty, yes. Crunchy, absolutely. I think having them WITH guacamole on a tortilla chip also helped and I don't think I would eat them alone, but I would certainly eat them again.

One of the most magical experiences we had in San Miguel was at the Rosewood restaurant Luna. This tapas bar includes an incredible view of the whole city, live music, and of course food that is out of this world. Unfortunately, the food was off the table before I could grad any photos.

San Miguel was such an amazing place to visit, and an even more amazing place to eat. Linked below are all restaurants mentioned and not mentioned that left us satisfied beyond belief.
